Pets

Being in such rural surroundings The Grove Farm is the perfect location for dogs due to the mass of open landscape, public footpaths from the orchard and a fantastic dog friendly pub just a twenty minute walk away. Not to mention the acre set aside for a doggie exercise area, perfect for those bleary eyed 'walks' first thing in the morning.

We love to welcome pets to these cottages because we know what it's like for pet owners who want to bring their four legged friends without compromising on the quality of their accomodation. As long as pets are kept off the furniture and out of the bedrooms we see no problem with having them stay here.

What do we charge?

We are very happy to accept pets.

However there is a price to pay for this luxury and our owners would like the extra costs involved in housekeeping to be absorbed by guests who bring pets. We have to consider that the next guests staying may have an animal hair allergy and extra cleaning is required to ensure all traces of animals have been removed.

In return we go to special lengths to ensure that you and your pet really enjoy yourselves at our cottages with our Pet Welcome Pack

The Pet Welcome Pack includes:

A Pet washing station (outside hose).
Pet Poo bags
Local dog walks maps
Information about dog friendly pubs
Pet Supplies information
Vet information
Emergency dog towels, if things get out of hand
A Doggie bowl and a treat.

Pets are charged at £15 per pet per short stay of 5 nights or under and £25 per pet per week.

Which cottages at The Grove Farm accept pets?

Unfortunately Snow and Rose Cottage cannot accept pets due to the floor boards in both cottages.

The Bakery can accept upto 2 large dogs
Dons Barn can take upto 2 large dogs
Gun Cottage can allow upto 3 medium/small or 2 large dogs
Orchard Cottage can sleep upto 2 large dogs

Leaving your pets alone

Obviously you can't keep an eye on your pets through the night to stop them sleeping on the furniture so we ask that owners bring along a travel/sleeping cage.

In our experience when dogs are left alone in a strange surrounding they fret and howl - this is unfair to other neighbouring guests or neighbours so please take your pet with you and don't leave it alone. Damage to sofas, doors and paintwork happens when pets are left alone.

Walks

The exercie area is perfect for those wee breaks and a bit of fresh air while pooches roll around having fun. This area is not fenced or enclosed so owners are best keeping their dogs on a lead here. Plus we have an awful lot of wildlif here from rabbits, hares, deer and monkjack which are just impossible for dogs to resist chasing.

There are walks straight from the gardens here at The Grove into the field beside the orchard or along quiet country lanes and footpaths leading to the local pubs.

We provide excellent OS maps in each cottage with the best local walks marked out for you. The maps are laminated and are brilliant to help you plan your journey from pub to pub!

Control

As we have many pets stay with us it is really important that peeing stations are not established in the gardens so please do not allow your dog to pee in the gardens which are for guests to enjoy anyway.

As pee scorches: or if its a female dog, can kill the grass so please avoid this problem on all guest gardens. Obviously fouling or any damage to the gardens is not permitted and dog bags are provided by the dog exercise area to help keep this a clean space for all dogs to enjoy.

We would love it if we could let all dogs run arund at their leisure but please keep them on a lead as none of the gardens are enclosed or fenced and dogs can access the road. We have wondering cats, bantams, flightless ducks and guests to consider too.

Final point

We know that most owners are very considerate  and aware of their responsibilities as pet owners and we enjoy welcoming hundreds of guests and their pets returning time and again, but as the cottages are so poular with pet owners just one thoughtless owner can seriously ruin the holiday of others and leave the cottage in a state for the next guest.

If you have any queries about this or any helpful suggestions please do contact us, we just want everyone to enjoy themselves here.
